Pastor Faye Coates, right, of Northview Harvest Ministries, offered a prayer at the National Day of Prayer gathering outside of the Scotland County courthouse on Thursday. Some 50 people participated, with clergy and laymen alike offering prayers for the nation, local schools, military members, and for spiritual revival.

A former policeman and magistrate were honored by the Scotland County Law Enforcement Officer’s Association last week at the group’s annual Past and Present Dinner. The function was held on April 27 at the Wallace Lodge, with former Laurinburg Police officer Billy Campbell and former Judicial District 16-A magistrate Richard Rhue receiving places on the association’s Wall of Honor.
Pet of the Week It’s the Heartworm Bunch. Dorothy, Billy Bob, Ranger, Lydia, Foster, Rascal, Ebony, Elvis and Watford have all tested positive for heartworms. We need to get them cured before we can make them available for adoption. They’re all terrific dogs and would make great pets, so it would be a shame that a small parasite would be the only thing that would keep them from living long and happy lives with a family of their own.
