Scotland County Memorial Library will end its Summer Reading Program Saturday with a movie.
The action-adventure film will be shown at 2 p.m at the library at 312 West Church St. in Laurinburg.
Denise Dunn, youth services librarian, said she could not reveal the name of the movie because of licensing restrictions. The movie is rated PG-13 for violent content. It is just over 140 minutes long.
“It is a blockbuster movie that was filmed in North Carolina, is part of a trilogy of best-selling young adult novels, and was released for viewing on Aug. 18,” Dunn said.
Admission to the movie is one canned good that will be donated to Church Community Services’ Food Bank.
“Community teens and tweens are invited to come out on Saturday to celebrate the end of the summer and to give back to the community,” Dunn said. “Everyone is invited to our last program before the start of school and help the youth take a stand against hunger.”
Saturday’s event ends the summer reading program which began in June. Other programs included exhibits of raptors and snakes, story telling, a magician and a theater production.
“This is a great way to end the program,” said Leon Gyles, library director. “It was something suggested by our volunteers.”
Gyles said he was unsure how many may attend Saturday’s screening, but previous events have drawn a large number of young people.
“The summer reading program has gone very well,” he said. “I don’t have all the numbers in, but we had over 500 in the see the Birds of Prey program and about 350 for story teller Tyris Jones. It has also meant a lot kids coming in and using the services here.”
