There are still several ways for individuals and businesses to support the 19th Annual Drive for Education Golf Tournament next week, according to Communities in Schools Director Maria Bingham.
Founded and sponsored for 17 years by the Laurinburg-Scotland County Area Chamber of Commerce, this year’s tournament will be sponsored for the second time by Communities in Schools of Scotland County. Bingham said that much of the tournament’s support has carried over, and new sponsors have come on board.
“We’re trying to keep the name because a lot of people have played in it for years,” said Bingham. “We’ve had great support from Scotch Meadows Country Club, Scotland County Schools, and area businesses.”
Communities in Schools of Scotland County was founded in 2011 as a chapter of Communities in Schools, a nationwide dropout prevention program, and has been working with students at North Laurinburg Elementary School and Carver Middle School since its inception.
The Drive for Education Golf Tournament, held at Scotch Meadows Country Club, will begin with lunch at noon on Tuesday, followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start to tournament play. Interested golfers can still register to play, as space remains available for several teams of four.
The registration cost is $75 per individual or $300 per team, including 18 holes of golf, hole-in-one and longest drive competitions, and a $2,500 putting contest.
Sponsorships from the $100 to $1,000 levels are also available.
The tournament will be followed by a pig picking and auction of items including jewelry, gift cards, and various services. Communities in Schools of North Carolina President Eric Hall will be the guest speaker.
“He’s going to come down and say a few words about Communities in Schools and our mission,” said Bingham.
Entry forms can be obtained at the A.B. Gibson Education Center. For information about entry, sponsorship, or to donate auction items, call Bingham at 277-4459, ext. 365 or at 280-4311.
