Separate shootings in Laurinburg this week have left one man dead and two others injured, including a child.
Michael McLean, 37, of Tucker Street was shot at 704 Aberdeen Road after leaving Brothers In The Hood Market, according to a police report. The shooting occurred late Thursday and early Friday morning.
Police said two disguised black males waited for McLean outside of the building and shot him multiple times before fleeing the scene. McLean was transported to a medical facility where he is in critical condition.
Nearly four hours later, shots were reported at a home on Hickory Street when someone outside of the building fired into it multiple times, according to the police. An 8-year-old girl, who was sleeping at the time, was struck in the left arm by a bullet. She was treated at Scotland Memorial Hospital and released.
At 2:02 a.m., police responded to a call of shots fired on Lincoln Street. Jonathan Murphy, 22, of Harrison Street was found lying lifeless in the front yard of 359 Lincoln Street, with no one else in the area. Murphy had been shot multiple times. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist with the case.
According to police Lt. Marc Godwin, it is not yet known if any of the shootings are related.
This is not the first incident of violence at Brothers in the Hood Market, in the Virginia Square shopping center. In June 2011, Derrick Bethea, 30, and William McKoy, 19, both of Laurinburg, were shot and killed outside of the store.
