Scotland High School’s class of 2012 will remember two departed class members at the school’s annual baccalaureate service tonight.
The service, to be held at 7 p.m. in the Scotland High School auditorium, will give students an opportunity to celebrate the role their faith has played in their academic journey.
“This is an opportunity for the community, especially the faith community, to come together with the students and give praise to God for helping them through the journey of school and to give them hope and inspiration to face whatever challenges they will face after they graduate,” said B.J. Gibson, student adviser and Baccalaureate organizer.
Baccalaureate is sponsored by the Scotland County Ministerial Alliance.
Music will be provided by the Imani Gospel Choir and Scotland High School chorus. Senior Parris Palmer, minister at All In the Word Youth Ministry in Laurinburg, will deliver an inspirational address to his classmates.
This year’s Baccalaureate will incorporate a memorial service for class members Jeremy “Scrubs” Williams and Rochaad “Pretty Boy Smile” Ingram, both of whom would have graduated from Scotland High this year.
Williams, the son of Charles and Tanya Williams, died in February 2011.
Ingram, a JROTC member and son of Terrance Ingram and Rochelle Cureton, died in June 2010.
A reception will be held immediately following the program. The public is invited.
