Richard Hudson, a candidate for the 8th District, will speak at next week’s 2012 Republican National Convention.
Hudson is running against incumbent U.S. Rep. Larry Kissell and write-in candidate Antonio Blue. Kissell and Blue are both Democrats.
The convention convenes in Tampa on Aug. 27.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to shine a national spotlight on how President Obama’s policies — supported by Larry Kissell — are failing the people of the 8th District,” said Hudson. “North Carolina is ready to replace Obama and Kissell with leaders who will help grow jobs and stop the bailouts, waste and giveaways. I look forward to letting the whole country know that North Carolina is ready to lead the American comeback.”
Hudson is expected to be one of the only candidates running for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives who has been invited to speak during the convention, GOP officials said.
Convention Chief Executive Officer William Harris described Hudson was the party’s future.
“The candidates who will be speaking, like the many others running for office across the country, represent the future of our party and a better future for our country,” said Harris. “Their participation will help inspire enthusiasm for Republicans up and down the ticket.”
Nearly 50,000 visitors will attend the Republican Convention, officials said.
