C.G.’s Night Club in Laurinburg has closed indefinitely following a shooting on Sunday that left two men injured.

Around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Laurinburg police officers responded to a report of shots fired at the club, housed inside the Clinton Inn on Highway 401.

Brandon Hammer, 24, of Laurinburg, was shot twice in the hip area, while Dianote Drakford, 22, of Aberdeen, was shot once in the foot. The injuries were not life-threatening, according to Lt. Marc Godwin of the Laurinburg Police Department. The shooting occurred soon after a fight broke out on the club’s dance floor.

“There was a fight on the dance floor, but it’s unclear whether the people involved in the shooting were involved in the earlier altercation,” Godwin said Monday morning.

The shooter has not been arrested at presstime, although an arrest was made in an altercation in the night club’s parking lot earlier that evening.

Around 12:50 a.m., police officers arrested 26-year-old Yutako McNeill after McNeill attempted to use a handgun to assault an individual he had been observed arguing with, according to a police report.

McNeill, of 1519 Chestnut St., was charged with carrying a concealed gun and going armed to the terror of the public. Placed in the Scotland County Detention Center under $200 bond, McNeill posted his bond before 3 a.m.

McNeill was arrested again around noon on Sunday after attempting to evade a license checkpoint conducted by the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office on Lee’s Mill Road. McNeill was observed by deputies throwing a handgun out of the window of his vehicle.

McNeill was charged with resisting arrest, driving with revoked license, driving with an open container of alcohol, and carrying a concealed gun. He was then placed under a $5,000 secured bond.

As a result of the shooting, the night club has been shut down.

“C.G.’s is no longer in operation after that incident, due to the type of incident it was,” said Addie McQueen, manager of the Clinton Inn.

C.G.’s has been open for a decade, and three years ago was granted permission to operate as a night club.

McQueen said that club security handled Sunday’s incident to the best of its ability, and that the nightclub has been closed in the interests of the safety of Clinton Inn customers.

“The Clinton Inn is absolutely a safe place for people to be,” she said. “We are concerned to the utmost about our customers’ security and safety - things like this happen and it really could have happened anywhere.”
