Nearly 400 Scotland High School seniors and thousands of their family and friends gathered on campus Saturday for the 45th annual commencement ceremony.

Due to a structural integrity issue with Pate Stadium, graduation was held in the school’s new gymnasium. Because of the venue’s limited space, only four of the graduates’ eight tickets were good for admittance to commencement. The other four tickets allowed for holders to watch in either the school’s old gym or the auditorium, where the ceremony was live streamed on a large projector screen.

The commencement exercises featured performances by both the Imani Gospel Choir as well as the school’s advanced choir.

Valedictories were delivered by class of 2012 salutatorian Asher Strickland and by SHS’s top student, Joshua Altman.

Graduates then proceeded to the stage, where they were issued their diplomas by principal Beth Ammons.
