Scotland County’s current Register of Deeds will likely hold on to the job for a third term.
Challenged by Aletha Poole in the Democratic primary, incumbent Register of Deeds Debra Holcomb garnered the majority of votes in Tuesday’s election.
Holcomb brought in 3,116 votes to Poole’s 1,969, with the job’s 7-year veteran commanding the majority in all precincts but 1, 2, and 7. She could not be reached for comment by presstime.
No Republican candidate filed for the seat. Barring contest from a third-party or unaffiliated candidate, Holcomb will run unopposed in November’s primary election.
