A Scotland High School senior will be one of 48 members of the Morehead-Cain Class of 2017 at the University of North Carolina.
Destinee Hope Grove is president of the Scotland High School student body and president of the National Honor Society.
She is also the co-editor of the school newspaper and the starting goalie on the soccer team. She is the daughter of Ruby Clark of Wagram.
As a Morehead-Cain Scholar, Grove will receive a full scholarship for four years of undergraduate study at UNC, as well as four fully-funded summer experiences, which may include research or service performed abroad.
The scholarship is valued at more than $90,000 for scholars from North Carolina and more than $170,000 for out-of-state students.
Morehead-Cain scholarships, established in 1945, are granted based upon demonstrated leadership, academic achievement and character.
The 2017 class of scholars includes 23 students from North Carolina high schools, 17 students from elsewhere in the United States, and eight international students.
More than 220 Morehead-Cain Scholars currently study at UNC and over the past 10 years, 13 have won Rhodes Scholarships.
