Renowned baker and cookbook author, Peter Reinhart, will highlight the 2012 “Taste of Cheraw” culinary experience.

This year’s event is scheduled for April 26 at the gardens of Anna and Craig Watson’s 143 McIver Street residence, a venue that once hosted General William T. Sherman.

Reinhart’s appearance is being sponsored by the Friends of the Chesterfield County Library.

Tickets for the event are on sale at the Greater Cheraw Chamber of Commerce office at 221 Market Street. Patrons must be 21 or older, dress is Black Tie optional.

Ticket prices for the members are $45 and $50 for non-member.

Chef Reinhart

For the past eight years, Reinhart has been the full-time Chef on Assignment at Johnson and Wales University in Charlotte, having taught at the university’s Providence, Rhode Island campus for the previous four years. Prior to teaching with Johnson and Wales he was a full time instructor at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco.

As a bread expert, in 1996, Reinhart won the James Beard Foundation’s National Bread Competition for his “Wild Yeast Country Bread,” later featured in his book, Crust and Crumb. He was also the bread chapter author for the revised Joy of Cooking, released in the fall of 1997.

His most recent book is “Peter Reinhart’s Artisan Breads Everyday, which was nominated for a James Beard Award. He has won a record three James Beard Book awards and his American Pie: My search for a Perfect Pizza; The Bread Baker’s Apprentice, also won the IACP Cook Book of the Year award, as well as the International Gourmand Award for the Best Baking Book in the World.

Reinhart will be offering a taste selection of Johnson and Wales breads paired with Chesterfield County spreads and relish. The Friends of Chesterfield County Library will also be selling selections of Reinhart’s cookbooks. The author will be available for book signings throughout the evening.

“We are excited to have Peter Reinhart join us in Historic Cheraw for an elegant evening of southern delicacies and entertainment by the famous beach band, the “Fantastic Shakers.” said Jeff Reece, CEO of Chesterfield General Hospital and chairman of this year’s event. “This is the major fundraiser to support the chamber’s business recruitment and visitor services operations.”

For information contact the chamber at 843.537.7681.
