The Laurinburg City Council is expected to hold a number of public hearing tonight to deal with zoning requests.
The council meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the council room of the Municipal building at 303 West Church Street.
The council is expected to consider a request to rezone 4.5 acres on North Wilkinson Drive to allow Community Missionary Baptist Church to build a church. The property would go from residential to office-institutional zone, if the request is approved.
Council is also expected to consider a request to rezone a 3.4-acre tract at the interesection of McColl and Barnes Bridges roads. Scotland Motors in Laurinburg made the request. The automobile company wants to erect a a billboard at the site.
City leaders will also hear a request from Scotland County EMS Director Royland Hammond. Hammond is asking the council to approve a resolution to support the application for a grant from the NC 911 Board. The grant — between $4 million and $5 million would be used to build a consolidated 911 Public Safety Awareness Points Center for Laurinburg and Scotland County. The county Board of Commissioners approved the grant request on March 5.
