There are several important dates coming up for would-be voters, including the deadline for voter registration.

In order to register in time to vote on Nov. 6 voter registration forms must be postmarked by Friday or brought to the county board of elections office by 5 p.m. that day.

Located at the Scotland County Government Annex building, the board of elections office is also the site where requests for absentee ballots must be submitted.

Absentee ballot application requests can be submitted from now until Oct. 30, when they must be received at the elections office by 5 p.m.

Once absentee ballots are filled out, they must be turned in at the elections office by 5 p.m. on Nov. 5 or postmarked by 5 p.m. Nov. 6 and received at the elections office no later than 5 p.m. on Nov. 9.

Board of Elections Director Dell Parker advises local voters to confirm their registration details and update their address information prior to Friday at noon by calling 277-2595.

“It’s important that people call to let us know if they have moved and to update their address so they don’t end up having to go around to different polling places on election day,” Parker said.

According to Parker, the sooner individuals can register or confirm their voter details, the better.

One-Stop early voting will take place from Oct. 18 until Nov. 3 at the conference room in the County Annex Building at 231 East Cronly St., Suite 305 in Laurinburg.

One-Stop voting (8 a.m. until 5 p.m.): Oct. 18 and 19; Oct. 22-26; and Oct. 29 to Nov. 2 One-Stop voting will also be available on Nov. 3 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
