Elementary Principals,

After much deliberation and discussion reviewing the quality nominees received this year, it is with pleasure that we announce Mrs. Pam Coughenour, 4th grade math teacher at South Scotland Elementary School, as Scotland County’s Elementary Outstanding Math Teacher of the Year.Pam has her BS in Elementary Education from UNC Pembroke. She in on the Scotland County Schools’ 4th grade math Common Core State Standards design team, which has and will be presenting a variety of professional development activities in Scotland County Schools. At South Scotland Elementary School she is a member of the Lighthouse team which meets regularly to improve her school in the Leader in Me initiative. In her classroom, she uses hands-on, inquiry based instructional strategies to support her students in the development of mathematical concepts. She also incorporates reading and writing on a regular basis in her math centers to provide students the opportunity to probe deeper into mathematical ideas, as they process and communicate their mathematical understanding.

Please help us in congratulating Mrs. Pam Coughenour as Scotland County’s Elementary Outstanding Math Teacher of the Year.
