Juanita Bowen “Nita” Hunley, 80, of Charlotte died on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012 in Hospice House of Union County.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium in Laurinburg with burial following in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Born on Aug. 28, 1932 in Laurinburg, she was a daughter of the late Charles C. and Juanita S. Bowen. She was a graduate of New Hanover High School in Wilmington and a graduate of Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing and Queens College in Charlotte.

She retired from Presbyterian Hospital after 38 years of nursing, some of which as a nursing instructor with the Presbyterian School of Nursing.

She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Hunley. In high school she was voted the most athletic woman in her senior class. She also loved traveling to the mountains and to the beach.

She is survived by her nieces Rebecca Hicks (Roger) of Laurinburg and Yolanda Bond (Woody) of Sanford, her nephews Woody Maultsby of Gibson and Charles Bowen, III, 11 great-nieces and nephews, and 16 great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Florence Charlene Bowen and Rose Maultsby Tilley, her brother Charles C. Bowen, Jr., and her niece Judy English.
