With his father having been deployed to a combat zone, Laurinburg Boy Scout Jamie Tippett says that he understands first-hand the importance of care packages from home to the men and women serving their country overseas.

It was for that reason that Tippett chose to collect, package and ship military care packages Saturday to local soldiers from the Laurinburg National Guard Unit as part of his Eagle Scout project for Troop 447.

Tippett said in a letter to the Exchange that the purpose of the care packages is to show love and support for the ninety-five Laurinburg soldiers currently deployed.

“My goal is to have the care packages delivered around Valentine’s Day,” Tippett said.

The Scout is asking the community to join him in supporting the soldiers by donating supplies and donating money to cover the cost of the items and their shipment.

Tippett has arranged two drop off days for those looking to help out.

Those interested may bring items or donations to the Laurinburg ArmorySaturday from 2-4 p.m. and on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 between 9 a.m. and noon.

For those unable to bring items during those days, Tippett has offered to pick up items where they are.
