LAURINBURG - With autumn around the corner, Scotland County Parks & Recreation is set to begin registration for soccer, football, and cheerleading camps.
Sign-ups begin on July 28 and end Aug. 8. Registration is $15 until Aug. 2, after which the price goes up to $20.
Parents can register their children online at scotlandcounty.org/parks-and-recreation.aspx, or in person at the Parks and Recreation center at 1210 Turnpike Road.
Kids between the ages of 7 and 12 can sign up for football and cheerleading. Two tackle football leagues are also an option, one for kids aged 9-10 and another for those aged 11-12 years old.
Registration for the tackle league must take place at the Parks and Recreation center, as kids must weigh-in. Children between 9-10 years old must be at or below 125 pounds, and children aged 11-12 have to weigh at or below 150 pounds.
Children between the ages of 4 and 15 can register for the soccer leagues.
Parks and Rec athletics superintendent Al Blades is proud to host these leagues every year, and says many kids who have attended have gone on to play varsity sports at Scotland High School.
“Our leagues have really grown,” Blades said. “Many of the kids who are fortunate enough to play in our leagues move on to play in middle and high school and some even played in college and on the professional level.”
