SOUTHERN PINES — Pinecrest beat Scotland 4-3 in nine innings Wednesday to advance to the final of the Southeastern Conference tournament.
The Patriots will take on the undefeated Richmond Raiders in the final.
Leading hitters for Scotland were Abby Bray, 2-4 with one run scored and Ashleigh Bailey, 2-4 with one run scored. Both teams had nine hits and six strikeouts each. The Patriots were able to win on a walk-off single. Their runner scored from second base and beat the tag at the plate for the win.
Kenleigh Callahan started the game for Scotland and threw 65 pitches before being pulled in favor of Avery Callahan. She finished with 107 pitches.
“We had no errors in the field, we just needed some timely hits,” Scotland coach Patrick Williams said.
The Scots will be in the playoffs, but do not know where yet. They will find that information out on Saturday. Williams said he is looking forward to it.
“We’ve been in the playoffs before and we’ve been in a few extra innings games this season and last, so we know what to expect,” he said.
