LAURINBURG —The win over Hoke County came a lot easier for Scotland this time.
The Scotland softball team rolled to a 12-1 win over Hoke County on Tuesday night in the first round of the Southeastern Conference tournament. When the two teams met in Raeford on April 8, the Scots escaped with a 2-1 win against the team that finished 1-9 in the SEC.
But Scotland had no problems scoring runs on Tuesday. The Scots combined to hit six doubles, two triples and two home runs. Leading hitters for Scotland were: Avery Callahan who went 2-4 with two RBIs, Abby Bray who went 2-3 a solo home run, Nikki Hogan who went 1-1 with an RBI double and Hailey Clark who finished 1-3 with a two-run homer.
Kenleigh Callahan was the starting pitcher for Scotland, and she faced 18 batters, allowing one run on three hits. She struck out seven.
The Scots will play at Pinecrest tonight at 7.
Lumberton eliminates Scotland in soccer
LUMBERTON — The top-seeded Lumberton soccer team knocked out Scotland in the second round of the conference tournament on Tuesday, winning 7-2.
Scotland coach Danny Gallagher said his group of seniors gave a good effort in their final high school game. Jessi Kee and Jasmine McLean scored the goals for Scotland, but it was not enough to get by the Lumberton squad that knocked off Pinecrest to claim the regular season Southeastern Conference title.
Scotland finishes the season with an overall record of 5-10-3.
