FAYETTEVILLE — A Scotland County native has been hired as Cumberland County’s new assistant county manger.

Quentin T. McPhatter, 39, of Wagram, will be one of two assistants. He will oversee departments including Animal Control, Central Maintenance, Emergency Services and the Fire Marshal, Engineering and Infrastructure, Grounds Maintenance, Planning and Inspections, Print and Graphic Services and Solid Waste Management.

McPhatter has served since July 2007 as deputy city manager of Kingsland, Ga. He previously served as town manager of Green Level, in Alamance County, from 2003 to 2007, and worked for the city of Raleigh and the town of Knightdale.

His first day on the job will be Jan. 13.

McPhatter earned a bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University and a master’s degree in Public Adminstration, with cum laude distinction, from North Carolina Central University.

He is the son of Henry and Regenia McPhatter, of Wagram. McPhatter and his wife Michele have two children, Kendall, 7, and Krista, 3.
