HAMLET — In an effort to help students and parents fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the Richmond Community College Financial Aid Office and the College Foundation of North Carolina are sponsoring FAFSA Day on Feb. 22 from 9 a.m. to noon in the college’s DeWitt Building.
Bruce Blackmon, the college’s director of Financial Aid, said prospective students applying for scholarships may find a completed FAFSA is required if financial needs are a consideration. RCC’s scholarship applications are now available from the Financial Aid Office, as well as online. They are due by March 23. Many require a completed FAFSA.
“Students who have completed their RCC applications by the priority deadline of March 15 will receive notification of their Pell awards in early April. The advantage of early filing is you have time to provide any additional information they request,” Blackmon said.
Participants should bring students’ and parents’ federal 1040 tax forms for 2013 to the FAFSA Day program.
ach student and one parent should obtain a Personal Identification Number (PIN) prior to FAFSA Day from the Department of Education.
It will be helpful, though not required, to complete as much of the FAFSA on the Web worksheet as possible and bring it with you on FAFSA Day. Don’t worry if you don’t know all the answers; the experienced financial aid officers will help you. The FAFSA on the Web Worksheet for 2013-14 is available online.
