LAURINBURG — Students, staff and volunteers at Wagram Primary School, led by second-year art teacher Diane LeCours, have been working to cover the hallways in the theaterette area with scenes of North Carolina — from the mountains to the coast.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our whole school,” LeCours said. “The students are so proud of what they are accomplishing and the volunteer support has been great.”

LeCours, who is originally from New York, has worked as a visiting artist who provided students with a week-long mural experience. Although she primarily worked with schools in the Northeast, LeCours has also traveled to El Salvador and Equador to work with international students.

“We are so fortunate to have a talented artist such as Ms. LeCours here at Wagram Primary,” said principal Rob Guzman. “Not only are our students getting to be creative in a very big way, but it’s yet another, very tangible experience for them to take what they’re learning in the classroom about North Carolina and process it using a different medium.”

The mural is expected to be completed by the school’s Fall Festival on Oct. 31.
