LAURINBURG — A body pulled this morning from a drainage ditch near the intersection of two Scotland County roads has been sent for an autopsy, according to Scotland County Sheriff Shep Jones.

Jones said there were identification cards found on the body but a positive identification would have to be determined by a medical examiner. The body was that of a black male and was fully clothed, he said.

According to Jones, a passerby near the intersection of Harry Malloy and Barnes Bridge roads in Laurinburg called 911 at 9:58 a.m. and said they had seen the body floating in the deep ditch, which Jones called a “creek.” It took investigators about 45 minutes to pull the body from the water, he said.
