LAURINBURG — Scotland County Partnership for Children and Families recently held the first Motheread/Fatheread meeting for 2014.

This program offers parents the opportunity to meet with other parents while learning literacy skills and parenting ideas. Motheread/Fatheread groups read a children’s book with the intention of looking at it from an adult perspective. This is done to further the theme or moral for their children. The participants learn ways to make the story fun for their children and also ways to extend the story further than simply reading the book.

Motheread/Fatheread participants also play games, do activities and share a meal. At the end of the night, participants take the book that was read home to share with their children. The program is completely free and anyone is welcome. Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, Guardians — anyone who has a 5 years old or younger.

For information, call Jodi Morris at the partnership at 910-276-3333, ext. 308.
