HAMLET — Richmond Community College is partnering with the American Red Cross for a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 27 at the Cole Auditorium.
“We need at least 50 donors to sign up to have the blood drive,” said RCC counselor Chris Gardner, who is helping organize the drive. “The last blood drive had 60 people sign up, and 30 people showed up before the drive was ended early because of snow. We had 30 donors in two hours, so we should be able to at least double that amount in five-and-a-half hours for this upcoming blood drive.”
RCC held four Red Cross blood drives last year with 142 units collected from 150 donors. Of those 150, 33 were first-time donors.
“Our annual goal is 146, and we achieved 97 percent of that goal,” Gardner said. “Each unit can save three lives, so Richmond Community College helped save 426 patients in 2013.”
