LAURINBURG — The Cape Fear Council, Boy Scouts of America is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

To commemorate this milestone, the local council has published a history of the first 100 years and donated a copy of the book to the Scotland County Memorial Library.

“The council is working hard to preserve their long history and is looking for any Scouting memorabilia: uniforms, badges, paperwork and photographs to include in their archives and at their Scouting museum,” said Robert O. Walton, Jr., chairman of the Cape Fear Council’s 100th Anniversary committee. “Scouting has an expansive and storied history throughout the communities they serve. What better way to kick-off the second century of service than making sure to preserve the legacy of those responsible for the first.”

Those with Scouting memorabilia that they would like to see preserved and displayed for future generations of Scouts to enjoy can contact the Cape Fear Council at 910-395-1100 or 110 Longstreet Drive, Wilmington, NC 28412.

The Cape Fear Council administers the Scouting program in Scotland, New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, Columbus, Bladen, Robeson and Hoke counties. The council serves approximately 5,000 youth with more than 1,500 adult volunteers.
