Cole Auditorium gets “Fever”

Staff report

HAMLET — Break out the bellbottoms and leisure suits on Thursday and get ready for “Saturday Night Fever,” The Musical, coming to the Cole Auditorium located on Richmond Community College’s main campus.

The show, based on the 1977 movie starring John Travolta, starts at 7:30 p.m.

“We are excited to bring a full-scale musical to our area. With the recent productions of musicals like ‘The Wiz’ and ‘Grease,’ just to name a few on network television, there has been a renewed interest in musical theater,” said Cole Auditorium Director Joey Bennett.

The musical is packed with legendary hits from the Bee Gees, including ““Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever,” “Jive Talking,” “You Should Be Dancing” and “How Deep is Your Love,” in addition to several new songs written especially for this show.

“This musical is a break from the tradition of performing the standard musicals that we have featured before like ‘The Sound of Music,’ ‘Showboat’ and ‘Annie.’ We hope that we reach new audience members with more contemporary piece,” Bennett said.
