To the editor:
Most people know I’m the Thanksgiving Lady and know that I get around in the county, talking to people. I have known our Clerk of Superior Court for some years now. Over those years, I’ve found him to be fair as well as competent. Scotland County’s clerk’s office under his leadership has proven to be fair as well as competent. But the thing that strikes me most about Philip McRae is that he treats everybody who walks through those doors the same.
When I saw that he had an opponent I thought there might be a problem in the clerk’s office. I was relieved when I heard that Mr. Sellers had said during his candidates’ forum there were no problems, but he just wanted to further his career.
One more thing. Somebody said it was OK to vote for Mr. McRae’s opponent because Mr. McRae was going to be appointed judge. I called Mr. McRae and asked him if that was true. I’m glad I did. He said since the governor is a Republican and two Republican lawyers have announced intent to seek the appointment, the chances of a Democrat like him being appointed are probably slim to none. Anyway, he loves what he is doing now.
So if you are planning on doing Mr. McRae a favor by voting for his opponent, please don’t. Please cast your vote for Mr. McRae. He is the Clerk of Superior Court and he is doing a fine job. Let’s keep him in there.
