LAURINBURG — A 23-year-old Laurinburg woman is being held in the Scotland County jail without bond for stabbing her father to death, authorities say.
Ashley Marie Walters, of 15300 Cooper St., was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Robert Earl Walters Sr., 45, of Johns Mill Road, according to sheriff's Sgt. Jamie Laviner.
Laviner said Walters called the Scotland County Sheriff's Office at 3;15 a.m. to report that she had “been in a fight with her father” on the side of Stewartsville Cemetery Road “and was not sure if he was injured.”
Authorities found Robert Walters lying dead on the side of that road, Laviner said. Walters was arrested by the Laurinburg Police Department and jailed at 8:35 a.m.
Laviner said Walters had appeared to have been stabbed with a knife, but that his cause of death would be confirmed with an autopsy.
Walters and his daughter had reportedly gotten into an altercation while driving home from an event.
“They were at a party, left in the vehicle together and got into some type of altercation on Stewartsville Road,” Sheriff Shep Jones said. “That's where the vehicle stopped, they got into an altercation and she stabbed him several times there.”
Walters does not appear to have a prior criminal record.
