LAURINBURG — Scotland High School 2016 graduate Carrie Dean was one of 18 students that received an education scholarships from Self Help Credit Union.
The students were judged on their proven commitment to community service through leadership or volunteer activities. This is the second year the credit union has sponsored the scholarships. Each recipient received $500.
To be eligible students must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a post secondary college or vocational school and write an essay on the importance of being active in the community.
Dean will be attending Yale University and received her scholarship award from the Laurinburg Branch.
She represented the Laurinburg branch and was among six scholarship winners from eastern North Carolina. There were also winners from the western and triad/triangle part of North Carolina.
