LAURINBURG — Scotland County Schools honored its bus drivers recently with a lunch banquet at Sycamore Lane Elementary School.

Transportation Director Julius Dockery and Assistant Superintendent of Auxiliary Services Larry Johnson praised the drivers for their hard work through the year and for keeping students safe.

“You are the first face from school they see every morning. You set the tone for how our students’ day is going to be. You are on the front lines and are responsible for transporting to and from school our community’s most valuable asset – our children,” said Johnson.

Dockery also thanked the mechanics, who despite being one man short, continue to keep the buses operating properly.

Eugine Oxendine was named Transportation Department Employee of the Year. Sallie McCoy was named Bus Driver of the Year Award.

Queen Esther McRae was the first recipient of the Bus Monitor of the Year. This was the first time a monitor has been recognized.
