Franklin Chapel AME Zion Church is hosting a “A Day of Learning” Black History Program, sponsored by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Laurinburg Alumni Chapter, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Rep. Garland Pierce, Scotland County Sheriff Shep Jones, the Rev. Terence Williams, Fred McQueen, Pamela Baldwin, the Rev. Lawrence Dowdy and other leaders from Scotland, Robeson and Richmond counties will participate in a workshop and panel discussions. Black history classes are planned for children, youth and adults and lunch will be served. The event is free.

Goodwin Chapel Church A.M.E. Zion Church will sponsor a Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin Chapel pageant at 6 p.m. with special guests Brother Barry Smith, Cedric Milesand and the United Voices of Praise. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Laurel Hill First Baptist Church will hold a Diva Pageant program at 4 p.m. to help raise funds to purchase a Baby Grand Piano in remembrance of the late Mrs. Annie Jean Breeden. Laurel Hill First Baptist Church will have a dedication service at 4 p.m. in remembrance of the late Deaconess Annie Jean Breeden, wife of Deacon Willie James Breeden. Rev. Essie Davis and the planning committee of the church will complete the project “Sis. Jean” was working on. Breeden was a musician at the church and she was working on purchasing a baby grand piano before she passed in 2007. Rev. Walter Pegues, of Simpson Gillespie United Methodist Church in Charlotte and brother of Breeden, will be in charge of the service.
