E-mail submissions are also accepted (aoverfelt@civitasmedia.com). Please refrain from using cursive or any non-standard fonts or colors and include “church news” in the subject line of e-mail submissions.


Events occurring outside of Scotland County (with the exception of Maxton) will not be included. Please use full names and include time and date information.

Today


Eastside Emmanuel Holiness Church will hold a collard sandwich sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a breakfast plate sale Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. For deliveries, call 910-318-5156.

Saturday


Gibson United Methodist Church will hold a gospel singing and fundraiser for Emmie Cottingham Grooms, who has been diagnosed with lung cancer. A plate sale, baked goods sale and raffle will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. A gospel sing will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. A barbecue plate with baked beans and cole slaw will be available for $6. Hot dogs will be on sale for $1 and vegetable soup can be purchased for $3. A variety of baked goods will also be for sale.


Fletcher Grove Missionary Baptist Church will host a 2013 Health Workshop titled “Mind, Body and Soul” Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Minister and Natural Health Educator Cee Cee Michaela — AKA “Yvonne” from the television series “Girlfriends” — will be the guest speaker. A complimentary lunch and door prizes will be offered. Gibson Baptist Church will hold it’s eighth annual Christmas bazaar from 7:30 a.m. to noon. The event will offer several items for sale including crafts, baked goods, jellies, homemade vegetable soup, sausage and ham biscuits.


St. Johns Episcopal Church will hold its annual Market Day from 8 a.m. to noon. Baked goods and frozen items will be on sale. Also available will be fresh wreaths from the N.C. mountains and locally grown poinsettias. A soup and bread lunch will be served at 11 a.m. for $5. The church is located at the corner of Azure and Covington streets.


Sunday


Beautiful Zion Baptist Church will hold its annual December Birthday Gospel Sing at 3 p.m. Groups will include Cool Spring’s all-male choir from Laurinburg; C.R. Ellison and the Hillian Sisters from Hamlet; Buffalo Spring Gospel Choir from Raeford; Church of God Gospel Choir from Rockingham and St. Mary Gospel Choir from Laurel Hill.


Central United Methodist Church will hold a Christmas worship service at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall after the service. The church is located at the corner of Second and Commonwealth streets in East Laurinburg.


Reed Creek Baptist Church will be hosting the 22nd Anniversary celebration for gospel group “The Barnes Brothers” at 3 p.m. Other gospel groups scheduled to perform include “The Gospel Highlights” from High Point and “The Gospel Four” from Parkton. Dothan Presbyterian Church will hold a Christmas Candelight Service at 3 p.m. The Rev. Erika Ingram of Ashley Heights A.M.E. Zion Church will be the speaker. Everyone is invited to attend. The church is located at 501 E. Martin Luther King Drive.


Haven of Truth Church will hold a pre-appreciation service for Apostle Larry and Evangelist Sarah Crosby at 3 p.m. The speaker will be Apostle Remus Davis from Plumbline Church in Bennettsville.


Multitudes Church will hold a Cricket County Christmas Cruise at 6 p.m. and again on Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. The church is located at 15301 Jim Calhoun Road in Laurinburg.


Caledonia United Methodist Church will host Bishop Hope Morgan-Ward of the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church at its 11 a.m. service. A covered dish lunch will be served following the service. The church is located at 15201 Barnes Bridge Road in Laurinburg.


Thursday


Faith Presbyterian Church will hold its Early American Christmas Program under the direction of the Rev. John Goodman, retired Coastal Carolina Executive Presbyter. The service will begin at 6 p.m. and will feature Faith’s Adult Choir, nativity scenes with the children, and special music by John Goodman & Linda Faulkner and soloist Kim Denison. Refreshments will be served after the program by Presbyterian Women.


Old Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church will host an Advent Festival featuring handmade gifts, food and singing of Christmas carols.


Dec. 12


Faith Presbyterian Church will hold an Early American Christmas Program at 6 p.m., presented by the children of the church and the adult choir. Refreshments will be served after the program. The event is a celebration of the Lord’s coming which draws upon the Scriptures and upon song and story from an earlier era in our nation’s history.


Dec. 14


Bright Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church will sponsor its annual Senior Citizens Bingo and dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. All seniors are invited to attend.


Dec. 15


Saint Luke United Methodist Church will celebrate its 38th annual Lovefeast at 7 p.m., with a performance of a brass quartet from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke offered at 6:30 p.m. Choir anthems and carols sung by the congregation will accompany scripture lessons. The traditional Moravian coffee and buns will be served during the fellowship time, and the service will end with candlelight during the singing of “Silent Night.” The church is located at 1501 Turnpike Road in Laurinburg.

Partners in Ministry hosts a thrift store at its Community Resource and Referral Center, at 12 Third St. in East Laurinburg. Fill a bag with untagged items for $5.
