Mark 6:31a – “And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while … .”
I am in the middle of a three-day retreat to rest and be alone with God. Each year, I set aside a brief time of prayer and meditation upon God and his desires and plans.
God designed man to rest — nightly sleep, weekly Sabbaths, and other times of necessity. During this time each year that I get away by myself, I listen to the still small voice of God as he leads and directs my life and the life of our church. During this time, God refreshes the vision. He gives insight into what needs to be done, even in my sermon series, and refreshes my heart in his presence.
You may not be able to take three days, or even one day to get totally alone with God, but each of us needs to spend some quiet time with the Heavenly Father and seek his hand and direction in our lives. As we take this time, we are better prepared for what comes into our lives. Doing this will give you a New Hope for Today.
