LAURINBURG — The Verizon Wireless store in Laurinburg has moved to a new location.

Verizon moved Oct. 27 a few yards from its old location to the new retail strip known as the Laurinburg Commons. The location is in the Walmart shopping center off West Boulevard and U.S. 401.

Verizon is the first store to open on the 2.97-acre retail site that will also include a a Zaxby’s restaurant and FastMed Urgent Care.

“We made the move because we needed more space to hire more people,” said Ginger Cousins, a Verizon manager for 22 years.

The old location was 1,450 square feet while the new location offers 2,500 square feet. So far the company has hired on one more sales consultant, making a total of seven in the store.

“We added another sales person already, we rearranged everything and have enough room so that each sales consultant has a larger work station than they did at the old location,” Cousins said.

Cousins said Verizon is in the process of creating a new logo, which makes all the signage change.

“So the production for the outside of the building is not complete yet,” she said.

A ribbon cutting is set for the first week of December.

“We would like to invite our customers in and thank them for sticking with us,” she said. “We really appreciate their loyalty and we hope to continue providing the best service in Scotland County.”

Verizon Wireless provided wireless services to 135.4 million subscribers and is one of the largest wireless telecommunications provider in the United States. The company is headquartered in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
