LAURINBURG — The city of Laurinburg is officially seeking a new money manager.
The city’s longtime finance director, Cindy Carpenter, resigned in late May and city accountant Mary McNeill is currently serving as interim finance director.
According to the job posting, which went online on Friday, the finance director’s position involves supervision of the city’s finance department including accounting revenues and expenditures, payroll, budgeting, utility billing and collections, and ensuring that the department operates according to established regulations and procedures.
The finance director also sets plans and goals under the city manager’s direction.
According to City Manager Charles Nichols, the ideal candidate is “somebody who’s knowledgeable, somebody who’s aware of local accounting because public and private sector accounting really differ.”
“We just have to look at our applicants and go from there.”
The finance director is also responsible for preparing and presenting monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
The minimum qualification is extensive experience in public finance and local government administration, on top of a bachelor’s degree with accounting, business, or public administration coursework.
Preference will be given to applicants with a master’s degree in business or public administration or a CPA certification.
The finance director’s annual salary ranges from $66,318 to $97,956.
