Fraud

LAURINBURG – A resident of Scotsdale Street reported to police on Tuesday that she responded to a post on Instagram concerning a money making venture. The woman was told if she sent money to Jamaica she would receive more money in return. She sent $1,900 and did not receive any more communication.

Obstruction

LAURINBURG – Police operating a checkpoint on McGirt’s Bridge Road Sunday stopped a driver without an ID who refused to spell his name. The individual fled into a swamp but was apprehended. Eddie Carbaugh, 27, of Cliffdale Drive was charged with delay and obstruct an officer. Carbaugh had warrants for failure to appear on breaking and entering and larceny charges in Robeson County. He received a $10,000 secured bond, according to police.

Arrests

LAURINBURG – Cecil Helms, 41, of Bunch Road, Laurel Hill, was arrested for larceny from Food Lion on Aberdeen Road. Helms received a $1,500 secured bond, according to police.

LAURINBURG – Joseph D. Clodfelter, 25, of McGirts Bridge Road, was charged with one count of misdemeanor communicating threats. Clodfelter is an inmate at Scotland Correctional Institution. He was taken to the magistrate, charged and returned to prison, according to the sheriff’s office.
