LAURINBURG — A Laurinburg man remained in critical condition on Wednesday, two days after being hospitalized for injuries suffered in an ATV accident.
Around 5 p.m. on Monday, Aaron Chavis of Old Maxton Road was driving an ATV along the shoulder of Johns Mill Road, according to Trooper D. Ford of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Chavis, 25, was ejected from the vehicle after veering into the roadway.
“He entered the highway and turned too sharply and his ATV flipped and overturned,” said Ford.
Chavis incurred serious head injuries and other significant injuries in the accident, and was treated at Scotland Memorial Hospital before being flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
According to Ford, the ATV did not have a seatbelt, and Chavis was not wearing a helmet or any other protective equipment at the time of the accident.
In the days since, Chavis’ friends and family members have left pages of supportive messages on Facebook, describing him as “sweet and full of life” and “one awesome, sweet, caring, God loving man.”
Chavis worked as a hair stylist at Carrie and Company Hair Salon in Laurinburg.
