Laurinburg mayor ticketed in three counties

LAURINBURG — The city of Laurinburg’s mayor is facing a handful of moving violations issued over a three-week span beginning in March, according to North Carolina court records.

Matthew Block was stopped on March 15 in Union County and on March 26 in Cleveland County, both times along U.S. 74.

According to the Union County Clerk of Court’s office, Block was issued a citation for speeding, reckless driving and wanton disregard. He is accused of travelling 84 mph in a 55-mph-speed zone. His mandatory court appearance is scheduled for May 20. The incident occurred at 2:29 p.m.

In Cleveland County, Block was cited for travelling at 70 mph in a 55-mph speed zone at 1:37 a.m. He has a scheduled court date of May 6 for that infraction.

Block was also ticketed for travelling 70 mph in a 55-mph-speed zone in Robeson County at 7:35 a.m. on April 5, for which he is scheduled to appear in court in that county on May 18.

All tickets were issued by the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Block did not respond to calls for comment.
