Scotland deputies investigate bodies found in mobile home fire

LAURINBURG —Two people were found dead early Saturday morning in a house fire on Blakeley Road, just outside of Laurinburg, according to the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said when firefighters got to the mobile home it was engulfed in flames. Fire crews found the bodies as they were extinguishing the fire, according to officials.

Communications received the fire call Saturday at 4:38 a.m. Laurinburg Fire Department was first to arrive at the scene and Wagram Fire Department also responded to call.

The identities of the two bodies have not been released. No other details had been released at presstime.

The investigation has been turned over to the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

Captain Mitchell Johnson of the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office would only confirm there was a fire at the residence on Saturday and two bodies were found, citing the ongoing investigation.
