LAURINBURG — Police are investigating leads in a Sunday night shooting that left a 36-year-old Laurinburg woman dead in her own driveway.
Police officers found Lillian Lawanda Singletary lying unresponsive in the driveway of her home at 614 Jackson Street after responding to reports of shots fired in the area around 9:30 p.m., according to Chief Darwin Williams of the Laurinburg Police Department.
Singletary was pronounced dead on the scene, having suffered a single gunshot wound.
According to Williams, officers spoke with several witnesses in the area and investigation into Singletary’s death is ongoing. No suspect has been named.
“This was a great mother with three kids, and our heart goes out to the family,” Williams said. “It’s just a senseless thing. We’re doing everything within our means to bring someone to justice for this.”
Local police are investigating the case with the assistance of the State Bureau of Investigation.
“We are still actively seeking the shooter or shooters,” Williams said. “We worked throughout the night and we’re still working.”
Anyone with information about the shooting should report it to the Laurinburg Police Department at 910-276-3211.
