LAURINBURG —Taylor’s Detailing is hosting a charity car wash to raise money for a woman severely injured in a car accident.
Julius Taylor, the owner of Taylor’s Detailing, decided to host a car wash to benefit Jessica Johnson after she was in a tragic car accident five years ago. The car wash is will be today from 8 a.m. throughout the day. The shop is at 1407 S. Main St. and all proceeds will go toward Jessica’s medical travel expenses.
Jessica was in a car accident Nov. 29, 2010 on N.C. 79 in Gibson. She blew a tire, lost control of the vehicle and over-corrected, and was thrown from the car. As a result of the accident she was diagnosed with a brain injury, fractures and nerve damage leading to her inability to walk.
“She’s a miracle,” said Zelpha Johnson, Jessica’s mother. “We need that money to buy gas to go back and forth to Charlotte.”
Zelpha drives Jessica to Charlotte every few months for doctor appointments. She also will be taking her to Raeford for a dentist appointment where she will be pulling all of her teeth because they decayed due to the mass amount of medication she’s been on.
Zelpha is hoping to raise as much as possible through the charity car wash.
“I really don’t have a certain amount, anything helps,” she said. “I’m not going for a goal, I’ll just use it wisely to buy her gas.”
Jessica also had five children before her accident in 2010. Some of the money may go towards providing Christmas presents for the children.
“Julius, from Taylor’s Detailing, offered to help out because he knew Jessica before the accident and he knows everything about us,” she said. “Jessica used to work at the car wash and clean cars when it was known as Precision Car Care — she was one of the best car cleaners they had.”
Zelpha is looking forward to the car wash and hopes to bring out a lot of community members. The car wash will also give people a chance to meet the woman they are donating to.
“She will be at the car wash,” she said. “Thirty minutes after it starts people will get to meet who the benefit is for and they will fall in love with her.”
