ORLANDO, Fla. — Scottish Pilot Club of Laurinburg members Barbara Mack, Ida McGill and Mary Ann Salemme attended the Pilot International Annual Convention and Leadership Conference from July 8 through July 12 at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort in Orlando, Fla.

Since 1922, Pilots from around the world have met for the Pilot International Convention and Leadership Conference to participate in leadership training and workshops. One of the motivational speakers this year was Ethan Zohn, the $1 million winner of Survivor Africa in 2002.

The Scottish Pilot Club of Laurinburg received International Awards for Outstanding Community Service and Outstanding Club Visibility at the conference. The Scottish Plot Club of Laurinburg has supported InAsMuch, Special Olympics, St. Andrew’s University’s Equestrian Therapy Program and Christmas Cheer. They have collaborated with the Laurinburg Pilot Club to support the Anchors at Scotland High School.

During Brain Awareness Month in March, Scottish Pilots teach kindergartners brain safety. A scholarship is given to a senior pursuing higher education.

This past year, the Scottish Pilot Club of Laurinburg received a matching grant from the Pilot International Founders Fund to educate student athletes and their families about the signs of concussion. The grant also allowed the club to give the Scotland County Parks and Recreation Department a donation for football helmets and challenge other community groups to purchase helmets for the program.
