Mother of the Year


Scott Witten|Laurinburg Exchange Mae Blue, center, was recently named NAACP Mother of the Year for Scotland County. Blue, a member of Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, will represent the local chapter at the state level. Also competing for the honor were Verlean Bell of Laurel Hill First Baptist Church and Linda Terry of Narzareth Missionary Baptist Church. Churches raised more than $3,800 for program. Congratulating Blue from left are Rep. Garland Pierce, the Rev. LaShonda Southerland Ely, the program’s guest speaker and Herman Tyson, president of the Scotland County branch of the NAACP.
