FAYETTEVILLE- The Scotland Wrestling team got three wins in their opener , but Jack Britt proved to be too much for the Scots.

The Bucs benefitted from a trio of forfeits as they defeated Scotland, 58-15, Wednesday night.

"I was disappointed in the score but not disappointed by the effort that the boys put forth," Scotland Coach Joel McCanna said. "Outside of two seniors, everybody else on the team are first-year wrestlers and they did a good job."

Two of Scotland's wins in the match came the 112-pound class as both Josh Payton and Zak Watts won their respective battles by pinfall.

Freshman Nick Kees proved that he is capable of competing with opponents in his weight class, winning by decision in the 145-pound weight class.

The Scots had to forfeit three matches because they did not have wrestlers in those respective weight classes that could compete. They were over by about four or five ounces.

"It's going to be an uphill battle to start out with," said McCanna. "But as the season goes on, we'll get better."

Scotland (0-1) returns to action in a Dual team tournament at E.E. Smith on Saturday.
