Optimists opens registration today

Registration opens today for the 2013 Optimist Baseball/Softball Program.

All boys and girls between 5-12 years of age are invited to sign up and play.

The Laurinburg Optimist Club is a non-profit corporation, which emphasizes youth baseball. The club is not connected with any government agency. There are no fees to participate in the Laurinburg Optimist Baseball/Softball Program.

More than 375 youth participated in the program last year.

“This year we hope to see even more kids out at the park,” said C Scott Cole. “The Optimist program takes immense pride in providing quality baseball/softball experience for its kids, with good coaching and sportsmanship at its foundation. Multiple Major League and Minor League baseball players have come through the Laurinburg Optimist program. The program has won multiple state and regional championships. So, if you have a child 5-12 years old, we hope you call Optimist Park home this spring.”

Players new to the program can register by two different methods. You can register on the league website at http://lbgo.leaguetoolbox.com or signup in person.

In person registration will be today through Friday from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday at 9am at Optimist Park. New players will be evaluations will take place Feb. 23rd at 9am at Optimist Park.

Returning players can register by mail, in person, or on the website. All players must register by February 23rd.

All games are played at Optimist Park on Turnpike Road. The season will start with a Jamboree on April 13.
