After attempting to break into a Laurinburg home on Tuesday, three juveniles were arrested for first degree burglary, according to police.

Around 8 p.m., 71-year-old Walter Moore answered a knock on the door at his Ashley Drive home. When he began to open the door, three “young juveniles,” one of whom displayed a weapon, tried to force their way inside. Following a brief struggle inside the doorway, Moore was able to force the intruders out and close the door.

The weapon in question was discovered to be a Daisy BB gun.

“Mr. Moore was struck several times during the incident but was not seriously injured and did not require medical attention,” said Lt. Cliff Sessoms of the Laurinburg Police Department.

Authorities believe that the suspects were attempting to steal from Moore’s home. Moore did not recognize the assailants, and their reason for targeting him is unknown at this time.

On Wednesday, the three juveniles were arrested and charged. Two of them, both aged 13, were transported to a juvenile detention facility after being charged with conspiracy, first degree burglary, and assault.

The other suspect, aged 16, originally stated that he was younger than his true age. He was charged with conspiracy, attempted robbery, first degree burglary, assault, and resist delay and obstruct and placed in the Scotland County Detention Center under a $75,000 secured bond.
