Officials are expected to apply for Scotland County’s share of lottery proceeds during a meeting tonight of the county Board of Education.
The board will meet at 6 p.m. at the A.B. Gibson building in Laurinburg.
The school board is expected to approve an application for lottery funding.
Since the lottery began through June of last year, Scotland County education programs received more than $10.6 million in lottery funds. By law, those funds pay for teachers’ salaries in grades K-3, school construction, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, and college scholarships and financial aid based on need.
To date, the N.C. Education Lottery has raised more than $2.45 billion for these initiatives statewide.
The board will also hear an update on the career technical education program and consider new personnel.
The board is also expected to recognize Scotland County Teacher of the Year following an awards dinner before tonight’s meeting.
