LAURINBURG — Cameron Sharpe’s two-run home run powered Scotland’s softball team to a 3-0 victory over Lumberton on Friday night, and locked up a spot for the Scots in the postseason.
Scotland improves to 5-5 in the Southeastern Conference with the win, good enough for third place in the conference. Richmond took the top spot with a perfect 10-0 record, while Pinecrest finished next at 6-4. Scotland finished ahead of Purnell Swett (4-6), Lumberton (4-6) and Hoke County (1-9). The top three spots automatically advance to the playoffs.
Sharpe’s homer scored Avery Callahan and Hailey Clark, more than enough to pick up the win. Darby Cribb, Ashlyn Dial, Clark and Callahan also picked up hits in the win.
Kenleigh Callahan started on the mound for the Scots. As a team, Lumberton batted 22 times while recording two hits and striking out 10 times. Scotland managed to finish with five hits and three walks while striking out six times.
The SEC tournament will start on Tuesday.
