Fears that rob us of productivity

Happy New Year! It is hard to believe that another year has come and gone. This is the time of year when many of us think what we want to accomplish in the coming months. Some people believe in New Year’s Resolutions, but most people don’t do well with resolutions. I always take time during this season to think about goals for the upcoming year and I write them down. I like to do this for my personal life, as well as what I want to accomplish for my professional position. I don’t know how you feel, but I found years ago, when I write things down, I do much better with accomplishing the goals.

One of the obstacles to reaching goals is the ability to be productive. Some days tend to be very productive and much is accomplished, but then there are days that bedtime comes and “what did I do today?” is asked. I recently read an article on why there are times that we are not more productive. I found this very interesting. I would blame my non-productive day on being tired or lazy, but it seems that there could be underlying reasons. According to an article on management-issues.com, there are five fears that are universal in most people that keep us from being as productive as we can be.

Those five fears are fear of criticism, of rejection, of failure, of not getting what you want or of losing what you have.

If you want to know more about each of these, I encourage you to go to this website. This is just one of many great articles. Maybe you could pick up a tidbit on making your life more productive for 2014.

I believe that 2014 will be a great year for Laurinburg and Scotland County and I look forward to seeing what we as a community accomplish in this upcoming year. I am confident by together we will all have a very productive year!
